Kathmandu. A new variant of the coronavirus, confirmed as the JN Dot One, has been identified in Nepal.
Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, released a press statement confirming the discovery of the new variant for the first time in Nepal through genome sequencing.
When sequencing 16 antigen-positive samples at the National Public Health Laboratory, it was confirmed that the new JN Dot One variant of the coronavirus was present in seven samples.
The latest subvariant of COVID, ‘JN Dot One,’ has rapidly spread worldwide in the past month.
Dr. Prakash Budhathoki emphasized the importance of not letting the coronavirus spread, urging the use of masks, maintaining physical distance, and paying special attention to hand hygiene.
The Ministry, in response to the increasing infections of the new subvariant, has requested all health desks at entry points in Nepal to maintain continuous screening and monitoring. Additionally, health institutions have been urged to be prepared for health care management in the face of this growing threat.
