‘Lomanthang International Media Summit’ to Begin in Kathmandu, Conclude in Lomanthang



Kathmandu, Baisakh 26 – The Nepal Press Union is set to organize the first-ever ‘Lomanthang International Media Summit’ from Baisakh 27 to 30 (May 9–12). The summit will be inaugurated on Baisakh 27 at Hotel Himalaya in Lalitpur by Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav.

The opening ceremony will also be addressed by Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, and journalists from various countries. The summit will conclude in Upper Mustang’s Lomanthang with the release of a declaration on Baisakh 30.

According to Union President Shiva Lamsal, experts from six countries including those from South Asia will participate in the summit. Key topics of discussion include the changing global context, opportunities and challenges brought by technology, press freedom, climate change, and the current challenges faced by Nepali journalism.

The summit will begin in Kathmandu, pass through Pokhara, and end in Lomanthang, Mustang. On the second day in Pokhara, three thematic sessions will be held: ‘Climate Crisis and Journalism,’ ‘AI and New Media in South Asia,’ and ‘Press Freedom, Journalism Practice and Challenges.’

On the third day, a media tour from Pokhara to Mustang will take place, with a public interaction in Jomsom on climate crisis and the media’s role. On the fourth and final day, the ‘Lomanthang Declaration’ will be announced.

Around 150 journalists, both Nepali and international, are expected to participate in the summit.
